MODERN ARTIST LUBAINA HIMID CURATES FILM SEASON / SUN 22 JAN - MON 6 FEB
Posted: Tue 3 Jan
We have partnered with Modern Art Oxford to bring you a season of films handpicked by artist Lubaina Himid, whose work is the focus of the gallery’s latest exhibition - Invisible Strategies.
For this special season, Himid has chosen to show the mesmerising Polish/French drama The Double Life of Veronique (22nd & 23rd Jan), Frank Darabont’s popular modern classic The Shawshank Redemption (29th & 30th Jan), and finally the 1934 version of The Scarlet Pimpernel (5th & 6th Feb).
Tickets for these films are available at a special reduced price of £6 for adults and £5 concessions. UPP and MAO members will receive an additional £2 discount on the above prices.
One of the pioneers of the British Black Arts Movement, Himid’s work challenges the stereotypical depictions of black figures in art history, foregrounding the contribution of the African diaspora to Western culture. Invisible Strategies brings together a wide range of Himid’s paintings from the 1980s to the present day, as well as sculptures, ceramics and works on paper.
Invisible Strategies opens at Modern Art Oxford on 21 January and runs until 30 April.
