COWLEY ROAD WORKS ‘FREEWHEELING’ PROJECT LAUNCH EVENT / WED 14 JUN

On Wednesday 14th June, Cowley Road Works will launch their new Freewheeling project with a special event at The Ultimate Picture Palace.

The event will include a live music performance by flute and tabla duo Phil Freizinger and Chris Hills, a presentation by the artists linked with the project and a screening of the critically acclaimed Saudi Arabian drama Wadjda.

The Freewheeling project is about creating a dialogue through art to address issues of freedoms and difference, identity, ending violence against women and girls, resilience, and the role of the bike as a vehicle for freedom and social change.

Released in 2012, Wadjda is about a rebellious young Saudi Arabian girl who hatches a plan to get her hands on the bicycle she craves so that she can beat the local boys in a race. This charming coming-of-age story from first time director Haifaa Al-Mansour was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2014 BAFTA Film Awards.

Doors will open at 5.30pm
