Taxi Tehran12A

Directed by Jafar Panahi | Iran | 2015 | 1h 22m | Persian w/ English subtitles | Starring Jafar Panahi and Nasrin Sotoudeh

Banned from making movies by the Iranian government, director Jafar Panahi gets behind the wheel of a taxi and films the interactions he has with those who climb aboard. A candid look at the contradictions and social challenges in modern day Tehran, blurring the lines between documentary and fiction. Winner of the Golden Bear (Best Film) at the 2015 Berlin Film Festival.

Reviews

‘From its opening long-take to its gut-punch of a finale, this is a brilliantly humane testament to the fact that, in the twenty-first century, cinema is truly everywhere, and Jafar Panahi is still in the driver’s seat.’
★★★★★
David Ehrlich, Time Out

‘Solidarity is a strong theme in Taxi Tehran, Panahi’s most playful and hopeful film in years. A seamless and subversive meshing of documentary and fiction’
★★★★★
Glenn Heath Jr, Little White Lies
