Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile Rated 15

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile

Dir. Joe Berlinger. USA, 2019. 1h 50m. Starring Zac Efron, Lily Collins, Kaya Scodelario, John Malkovich, Angela Sarafyan, Sydney Vollmer, James Hetfield, Richard K. Jones.

Based on the memoir of Elizabeth Kloepfer, Ted Bundy’s long-time girlfriend, this compelling drama examines one of America’s most notorious serial killers through the eyes of the two women who loved him. Director Joe Berlinger — who also made the documentary series Conversations With A Killer – refuses to dwell on the actual murderous acts and instead captures the circus of the courtroom, while ex-Disney heartthrob Zach Efron bringing an unsettling charisma and complexity to the lead role.

‘More sad than salacious, it's the rare film about a criminal that offers human details without humanizing a man who so many agree was a monster.’ ★★★★ Kate Erbland, IndieWire

‘Efron has a ball: he's likeable, goofy and manic, except when flashing his eyes when he looks like that boy from The Village of the Damned.’ Charlotte O’Sullivan, London Evening Standard
