A Syrian Love Story Fundraiser Screening
1h 20m. UK, 2015. Directed by Sean McAllister.
A Syrian Love Story was the winner of the Sheffield Doc/Fest in 2015 and charts an incredible odyssey to political freedom in the West. Two Syrian revolutionaries Raghda and Amer, who met in a Syrian prison cell, find their love challenged by circumstance. This film tells the poignant story of their family torn apart by the tyrannical Assad dictatorship.
The film will be followed by a Q&A with Kate Smart, director of Asylum Welcome, Dai Richards, a local documentary filmmaker who volunteers at Asylum Welcome supporting victims of war and persecution, and Amel Alariqi, a refugee from Yemen who is working for Asylum Welcome on the Syrian Resettlement Programme.
The film is being screened as a fundraiser for Asylum Welcome, who work to provide a collective humanitarian response to the challenges faced by asylum seekers, refugees and detainees in Oxford and Oxfordshire. We have given up the cinema for the evening for free so every penny goes towards to the charity.
